JOB DESCRIPTION:
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for an Assistant Ranch General Manager for this Large Western U.S. Ranch Operation. This position demands a seasoned professional with comprehensive expertise spanning all facets of ranch operations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with hands-on experience across the entire livestock supply chain, land stewardship, financial management, and team leadership. They will be responsible for ensuring the ranch's profitability, sustainability, and long-term success through meticulous planning, execution, and oversight.
Key responsibilities:
- Livestock Management and Supply Chain: Oversee the complete lifecycle of livestock, including breeding programs (natural service, artificial insemination, embryo transfer), nutrition, health protocols, herd management, calving/foaling/lambing, and the entire supply chain from birth to sale. This includes implementing genetic selection strategies, managing inventory, and maintaining high standards of animal welfare.
- Land Management: Develop and implement sustainable land management practices, including rotational grazing, forage production, weed control, pasture rehabilitation, and water resource management (wells, irrigation systems, pipelines). Ensure optimal land use for livestock, wildlife, and overall ecological health.
- Land Acquisitions: Identify, evaluate, negotiate, and execute the purchase or sale of ranch land, grazing leases, and related real estate assets. This includes conducting due diligence, market analysis, and coordinating with legal counsel and financial institutions.
- Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Manage the upkeep and repair of all ranch infrastructure, including barns, fences, roads, dwellings, and agricultural equipment. Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure efficient operation and extend the lifespan of assets.
- Staff Management and Human Resources: Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise ranch personnel, fostering a safe and productive work environment. Implement HR policies, performance evaluations, conflict resolution, and ensure compliance with labor laws.
- High-Level Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records across all operational areas, including livestock data, financial transactions, land usage, equipment maintenance logs, HR records, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Accounting and Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, oversee accounts payable and receivable, analyze financial performance, prepare financial reports, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Make strategic financial decisions to maximize profitability and ensure long-term sustainability.
- Farming Operations: Plan, manage, and execute farming activities (e.g., hay production) as needed to support livestock operations, including tillage, planting, cultivating, fertilizing, harvesting, and equipment operation.
- Marketing and Sales: Develop and implement marketing strategies for livestock and other ranch products. This includes identifying target markets, building relationships with buyers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with market standards.
- Project Management: Oversee and manage diverse projects, including infrastructure development (e.g., building new barns or fences), land improvement projects, and special initiatives. This involves planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and ensuring timely completion.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational, financial, and environmental risks associated with ranching. Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans, insurance protocols, and safety procedures.
- Legal Contracts: Manage and oversee legal contracts related to land acquisitions, sales, leases, livestock transactions, and vendor agreements. Ensure all contracts are in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Construction Oversight: Oversee new construction projects and major renovations, including planning, budgeting, managing contractors, and ensuring adherence to building codes and quality standards.
- Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with landowners, neighbors, buyers, suppliers, industry partners, and community members. Represent the ranch professionally and effectively in all interactions.
