Nebraska Feedlot Operation

Hansen Ag Placement is assisting a progressive Nebraska cattle feeder with the search for a well-rounded Assistant Feed Yard Manager / Yard Foreman to join a 15,000-head feedlot operation. This is a hands-on, hybrid role designed for someone who can serve as a right-hand person to ownership and help oversee daily yard operations. The position blends cattle health, feeding, equipment operation, employee direction, and general yard maintenance responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving cattle health outcomes and providing leadership continuity as several long-term employees near retirement.

Position Overview
The Assistant Feed Yard Manager / Yard Foreman will be responsible for floating between all departments of the feedlot and assisting where needed, including feeding, cattle health, processing, equipment operation, and yard maintenance. This role requires a dependable, self-motivated individual who enjoys a variety of responsibilities and is willing to grow into increased leadership and management responsibility over time. The position is intended for someone who wants to advance in responsibility and become a long-term part of a growing feedlot operation. Some training will be provided for the right candidate with a strong work ethic, good attitude, and aptitude to learn.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in daily feedlot operations across all departments
- Call feed and assist with feeding operations
- Monitor cattle daily; spot, diagnose, and treat sick cattle
- Assist with cattle processing and handling
- Focus on improving cattle health protocols and outcomes
- Operate feedlot equipment including tractors, loaders, and scrapers
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and basic mechanical repairs
- Assist with yard maintenance, including roads, fences, and facilities
- Maintain feedlot water systems (preferred experience)
- Assist in managing and promoting feedlot safety programs
- Work closely with ownership and crew to direct daily tasks as needed
- Provide leadership support to feeding, processing, and maintenance crews
- Float between departments to assist wherever help is needed

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior cattle feeding / animal health experience
- Experience calling feed and weighing cattle
- Strong background in cattle health: spotting, diagnosing, and treating cattle
- Experience in multiple areas of feedlot operations
- Experience operating feedlot equipment (tractors, loaders, scrapers, etc.)
- Experience with feedlot water system maintenance
- Good mechanical aptitude with routine maintenance and general repair experience
- Welding experience for yard and facility maintenance (preferred)
- Experience assisting with or managing feedlot safety programs
- Good communication skills and ability to work as a team player
- Dependable, hard-working, and willing to advance in responsibility
- Strong attitude, work ethic, and desire to learn
