Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is assisting a progressive Nebraska feedyard operation in the search for an Assistant Feedyard Manager. This position will work closely with the Feedyard Manager to help oversee daily operations, personnel, cattle performance, and profitability. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing cattle, feeding, yard operations, and personnel while helping position the operation for long-term success and growth.
Qualifications
- College degree in Animal Science, Ag Business, or related field or 3-5+ years of progressive feedyard industry experience
- Minimum of 3+ years supervisory or management experience in feedyard or cattle feeding operations
- Strong understanding of feedyard operations, cattle performance, and production systems
- Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safety compliance preferred
- Experience with cattle accounting systems and closeouts preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and personnel management skills
- Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel (Access a plus)
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to prepare routine reports and written correspondence
- Strong math skills including percentages, discounts, commissions, and performance calculations
- Strong problem-solving ability and sound decision-making skills
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills are a plus
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing and coordinating all departments within the feedyard including cattle, mill, feeding, yard, and maintenance
- Help develop, monitor, and maintain operating and capital expense budgets
- Lead, train, develop, and evaluate department managers and line employees
- Participate in feedyard planning projects and operational improvement initiatives
- Ensure accurate records and reporting in compliance with environmental, regulatory, and safety requirements
- Enforce and promote all OSHA and company safety procedures
- Monitor daily yard activities through regular observation and communication with staff
- Direct supervisors and consultants toward established performance goals
- Assist with purchasing and inventory management of commodities and supplies
- Work with cattle procurement to achieve placement and performance goals
- Assist in marketing fed cattle and provide feedback on cattle quality and performance
- Communicate capital needs and operational improvements with Feedyard Manager
- Act as backup for department managers and key personnel as needed
- Maintain positive working relationships with producers, farmers, vendors, and service providers
- Participate in personnel evaluations, bonus programs, and performance reviews
- Promote a safe, efficient, and positive work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
