About Us:
Green Life Farms is a leading provider of hydroponic produce, committed to sustainable and high-quality products. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Head Grower to lead and oversee the management of our crops and ensure the success of our hydroponic farming operations at our Babcock greenhouse located in Punta Gorda, FL.
Summary:
As the Head Grower, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all aspects of our hydroponic crop cultivation. You will be responsible for the health, growth, and productivity of our plants.
Responsibilities:
- Crop Management: Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities related to crop production, including seeding, planting, irrigation, nutrient management, pest and disease control, and crop yields.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the growing team, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.
- Quality Control: Ensure plants are healthy, high-quality, and meet the required standards.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of plant varieties, growth progress, pest, disease issues, nutrient information, and other relevant data.
- Implementing Best Practices: Stay updated with the latest horticultural trends and implementing best practices for plant care and growing techniques is essential.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments like sales and marketing to understand product demand and adjust the growing schedules accordingly for sales, operations, or plant needs.
- Resource Management: Manage inventory, ordering supplies, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Food Safety: Work with the Food Safety Specialist to maintain food safety standards, testing and documentation.
Qualifications:
- Understanding plant physiology and growing techniques.
- Ability to use MS Office, especially Word and Excel, and other standard software.
- Must be able to work in a team and communicate with individuals throughout the organization.
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to use professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of problems in practical ways.
- Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
- Ability to use and understand greenhouse control hardware and software (Priva).??
- Minimum B.S. degree in horticulture, biological sciences, botany, genetics, agriculture, crop science, or plant science is required.
- Must have experience applying pesticides and a PCA and/or CCA license, or the ability to acquire within 6 months after hire.??
- Experience with IPM (Integrated Pest Management)
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Proven experience in hydroponic crop cultivation and management, (NFT preferred).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Knowledge of hydroponic systems, climate control, and plant nutrition.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse environment with high humidity and varying temperatures, with a fair amount of moisture present.
- Ability to exert up to 15-50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and 10 pounds of force constantly in order to lift and move product.
- Ability to balance, reach, and grasp.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods at a time.
Job Requirements
- Must be able to work at a steady pace and be detail oriented.
- Must have a reliable form of transportation.
- Must be available to work weekends as needed.
- Strongly preferred bilingual (Spanish-English) communications skills (verbal/written).
- Strong math skills required.
Experience:
Schedule:
- 8 hr. shift or until job is done.
- Weekend availability.
Pay Range:
- $70-90k/year annualized. DOE.
