The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Beef Nutrition and Production Consultant to drive business growth and deliver high-value consulting services across the cow/calf and feedlot sectors in Southwestern Ontario. This is a crucial role for expanding our market presence and supporting the growing demand for our expertise.
 
This is a home office-based position in Southwestern Ontario requiring regular travel to client operations within the region. Office space is available near Waterloo if preferred.
 
The successful candidate will combine strong sales acumen with deep technical knowledge to manage client relationships and deliver expert consultation.
 
Business Development:
  • Develop and execute strategies to secure new business within specific sectors of the beef industry.
  • Employ a consultative selling approach to demonstrate the value of BeefSmart’s services and secure new service contracts.
 
Client Consulting & Service Delivery:
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate strong, long-term relationships and develop comprehensive nutrition plans for customers.
  • Nutritional Design: Design best-value feeding programs based on available ingredients, management targets, and feeding equipment, including nutritional and economic assessments of commodities.
  • Implementation & Audit: Set up, review, and audit the implementation of feeding programs and improvement strategies in ranches, feedlots, and backgrounding operations.
  • On-Site Consultation: Conduct regular farm visits to consult with ranch and feedlot managers on all areas of production and management.
  • Performance Improvement: Review client production data to identify opportunities for increasing profits through management practice changes, providing measurable improvements in cow/calf and feedlot performance.
  • Problem Solving: Collaborate with the nutrition team to troubleshoot production challenges and interpret feed, water, and liver biopsy tests for precise mineral and feeding recommendations.
 
Qualifications
Required Abilities & Skills:
  • Proven ability to operate independently, managing client relationships and prioritizing service delivery with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills and effective communication within a remote team environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including effective time management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey complex knowledge and new technology to customers.
 
Experience & Education:
  • Minimum 2 years of in-the-field experience working with modern ranch and feedlot operations is essential.
  • Extensive knowledge of the beef industry.
  • Specialized work experience in ruminant nutrition, feedlot, and ranch management is a significant asset.
  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree. Work experience will play a role in suitability for the position.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of feedlot management software (e.g., Fusion, ITS, PLA) is considered an asset.
 
Compensation
  • Salary Range:  $70,000 to $120,000 depending on education & experience.  Further incentive pay may also be applicable.
