Position: Breeder Assistant

GDM Seeds, Inc. (GDM) a Global Soybean Research Company (

GDM started as Asociados Don Mario in Argentina in 1982 with a focus on becoming a strong player in the soybean seed market. After years of continued growth and consolidation in the Argentinean market, GDM expanded other countries to become a global soybean seed provider. Today, GDM is the number one soybean genetic supplier in South America accounting for roughly 40% of the market share through Don Mario, Brasmax, and 3rd party licensees.

In addition to South America, GDM markets soybean seed in the United States, Canada, South Africa, and the European Union.

GDM is looking to gain participation in the United States soybean seed market by providing farmers with a strong portfolio of Soybean cultivars that can meet their needs.

As part of the growth and development of Soybean Breeding in the USA, GDM is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to become a member of the Breeding Team to work as a Breeder Assistant.

This person will work in direct relationship with the Mid-South Soybean Breeder and will have close interaction with the Nursery and Increases team. The position also requires high interaction with other members of the Global GDM Breeding Organization and collaboration with other research sites across the USA.

The main goal of the position is to collaborate with the breeder across all the breeding pipeline stages to ensure the development of new soybean varieties that meet the standards of the company for the commercial release of new products.

The main responsibilities include (but not limited):

  • Participate and assist the Breeder in all daily activities and logistics associated with yield trial testing including: seed preparation, seed cleaning, seed quality, packaging, field preparation, planting, phenotyping, tissue sampling, and yield plot harvest.
  • Participate and assist the breeder with daily warehouse activities including overall organization, shipment and receiving seed, seed inventory, cleaning process.
  • Traveling to different testing locations for data collection of different traits.
  • Ensure that all data collected in the field will be available in the database in a timely fashion to facilitate the advancement decisions.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and supervision of seasonal workers.
  • Assist Breeder with Regulated and Stewardship training to meet all requirements. Visit locations to ensure that all notes and requirements related to this subject are being followed.
  • Work with the proprietary software to create trials, field books, inventories and perform statistical analysis as required.
  • Be proactive to identify opportunities of improvements and to collaborate with different members of the team in activities including but not limited to seed preparation, planting, harvesting, and data analysis.

Job profile requirements:

  • MSc in Plant Breeding or Crop Science with +1 year of experience or Bachelor degree in Plant Breeding, Crop Science or related field with +3 years of experience working in a related field.
  • Strong background in Plant Breeding, field plot techniques, experimental design, statistical analysis, data collection, and Marker Assisted Selection.
  • Computer skills, database management
  • Aptitude to team leadership and project management
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills. Ability to work without direct supervision in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak periods of the season and willingness to travel to regional breeding trials.
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs

Workplace: Marion, Arkansas

Work Schedule: Full-Time position with availability for domestic and international travel. During peak periods across the season (seed preparation, planting, harvesting) long working hours periods will be required.
