Join our team that shares your Passion & Heart for Canadian agriculture! Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) has an opportunity for a motivated, forward-thinking, and dedicated individual as a Laboratory Technician Intern for our Milling division based in Acton, ON.

This position term is from May 2025 – August 2025.

This internship is a paid position.

 

P&H Milling

P&H is the largest Canadian-owned milling company. The P&H Milling Group sources wheat from Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada to produce quality flour and cereal products. The lineup includes hard red spring wheat flour for breads and other bakery products, soft winter wheat flour for cakes and cookies, as well as semolina flour for pasta, organic flour, and atta flour for chappati. In our specialty milling operation in Saskatoon, we also mill pea fractions.

From its mills in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Acton, Hanover, Hamilton, and Cambridge, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Lethbridge, Alberta, the P&H Milling Group supplies flour to customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Iceland, and Pacific Rim countries.

 

Your Role

As a Laboratory Technician Intern, you will gain valuable industry experience along with personal and professional skills to begin building your career. 

 

Day to Day

  • Conduct wheat and flour testing and analysis, ensuring raw material and finished goods quality and food safety are within the predetermined product specifications.
  • Complete and issue customers’ documents such as Certificate of Analysis, Product Specifications and other inquiries.
  • Assist in the maintenance of Quality program and manual which includes but not limited to periodic review and inspections, updating documents, filing and organizing, corrective and preventive action reporting.
  • Maintain documents and records in accordance with P&H policies and procedures.
  • Report and communicate with Department Supervisors/Managers on matters regarding the results of quality testing and analysis.
  • Participate in Food Safety programs, including maintenance of the Supplier Approval program.
  • Participate and assist with traceability, mock recalls exercise, audits, customer complaints and inquiries.
  • Support and participate in third party, customer and regulatory audits.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Food Science, chemistry, or related field program.
  • Good knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory instruments as well as physical and chemical testing and analysis.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines.
