LOCATION: Rio Grande High School

 

WEEKLY HOURS - .5 COURSE CREDIT: No more than 10 hours per week. No more than 6 hours per day, plus complete a self-reflection project and present it during the last week of the internship. Currently a 1 - 2 semester limit.

 

HOURLY PAY: $15/hr stipend (No taxes withheld)

 

WHEN WORK HAPPENS: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM unless instructed differently by your SEL Teacher/Advisor/Mentor Contact Name above.

Summary of Position

 

Interns will assist with the greenhouse, hydroponic growing systems, and the outdoor growing boxes at RGHS. Watering, weeding, harvesting, and general maintenance are all part of the agriculture program at RGHS. Additionally, students will also assist with Culinary Arts, ProStart, and Food Handlers of fruits and vegetables. Interns will prepare for Culinary Labs, conduct inventories, organize supplies, and assist beginners in learning essential skills. At times, interns may also assist with duties for our Agriculture magnet school grant as we explore new collaborating projects with other departments.

Exposure & Training provided through internship

 

We will teach you to manage Agriculture operations, learn about properly caring for hydroponics, greenhouses, and agriculture businesses. Proper safety and sanitation, organizational management, timeliness, strategic planning, and overall operation of a farm-to-table business with an agriculture and culinary focus.

 

 

Working and Physical Conditions/Onboarding Requirements (**vaccinations, etc.)

 

Please speak to your SEL Teacher/Advisor/Mentor regarding working and physical conditions at your intern site. You will also be required to sign and upload a W-9 and Parental Permission form. In addition, you will be required to electronically acknowledge Non-Disclosure and Internship agreements.

 

As part of your application, you will be expected to fill out your emergency contact information, school, and other personal information as required by Albuquerque Public Schools Work-Based Learning programs and the New Mexico Public Education Department.
