Our community involvement intern program focuses on ag education, young and beginning producers, hunger and nutrition, rural disaster relief and essential services. We support those initiatives through our volunteer program, grants, scholarships, corporate social responsibility, FFA, 4H, grain bin rescue equipment programs, corporate donation and donation match programs.  

As a Community Involvement Intern, you will have an opportunity to be a part of the programs that impact the communities we serve.

Here are a few things you'll be doing as aIntern: 

  • Understand how community involvement and CSR roles and projects fit into the corporate strategy 
  • Learn what's involved in organizing a volunteer event and understand realities of community needs and collective impact 
  • Collect, write, report, and share stories of impact with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Engage with the Corp Communications/PR specialist for press releases and social media for signature programs 
  • How to leverage relationships and empower leaders and teams to engage in grassroots efforts 
  • Learn the process of organizational decision making related to impacting ag education, hunger, young and beginning producer programs and rural disaster/essential services 
  • Contribute to the backend process of corporate decision making and team building 

You will have the opportunity to: 

  • Create content for multiple communication channels including press releases, social media, website content, internal communications and printed collateral  
  • Process volunteer donations, do photos, champion volunteer ideas and opportunities 
  • Do ad hoc reports for annual impact report, ELT and Board, quarterly reports, stakeholder inquiries 
  • Generate press releases for grant recipients and mobile food pantries and gather photos for publishing 
  • Be part of grant review process, awarding 50-125 grants per quarter, at $175-$200,000 total 
  • Engage in strategy discussions for ag education hunger, YB programs and rural disaster relief/essential services 
  • Provide support for scholarship program, Annie's Project, FFA handbooks and risk management tool, hydroponics, aquaponics, grain bin rescue equipment program, urban ag, DEI initiatives and community projects, and Ag in the Classroom  
  • Work with talent acquisition manager to build web content and relationship building tracker 
  • Take part in volunteer program, organize a lead a volunteer event(s) 
  • Create presentations for internal stakeholders and assist in creating proposals 
  • Process employee donation matches, donation check requests, volunteer donations and related correspondence 

Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in ag communications, corporate social responsibility, public affairs, journalism, public relations, marketing, fundraising or related field 
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale 
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal) 
  • Available for a 12-week internship during summer of 2021 

Internship Benefits:   

  • Qualified interns will receive a competitive hourly wage and $500 sign-on bonus
