Writing and editing expertise rewarded

Are you a skilled and experienced speechwriter, communications strategist and editor with a knack for knowing how to make the spoken and written word shine?

We’re looking for a collaborative writer who is comfortable writing for executive members, subject matter experts and everyone in between – whether it’s a speech, op-ed or social media post – and tailoring their writing to a specific audience.

You’ll expertly balance tone, voice and key messages, crafting clear external materials for a diverse group of leaders across the company, helping tell the story of FCC in a way that engages, informs and inspires.

This role is a great fit for a high-performing external communications professional with experience in public relations and leading and managing communications projects. Proven experience in planning and implementing communication strategies and tactics is essential, as are expert skills in writing, editing and developing compelling presentations. A background in journalism would be considered an asset.

What you’ll do

  • Write speeches, key messages, op-eds, briefing notes and other external content for executive team members, FCC leaders and other partners
  • Consult with senior leaders and internal partners on key communication strategies, speeches, key messages and plans
  • Provide expert consultation and support for strategies and tactics to engage persuasively with customers, industry stakeholders and media
  • Deliver expert advice on communication best practices
  • Collaborate with colleagues to seamlessly deliver communications products that are expertly and clearly written, accurate and on time
  • Create and implement communication campaigns
  • Develop partnerships throughout the organization

What we’re looking for

  • A confident writer, editor, communicator and strategic thinker who can balance the big-picture view with a focus on optimum plan development and execution
  • A disciplined professional experienced in managing projects, creating structure and building alignment on goals and outcomes
  • An expert strategist able to deliver solid corporate-level messaging
  • A self-assured team player who seeks out opportunities to collaborate
  • An energetic multi-tasker with an in-depth understanding of communication principles and best practices

What you’ll need

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or English literature and at least six years of increasingly senior experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Senior-level communication consulting experience with a focus on influencing others, building relationships and aligning diverse opinions
  • Expert writing, editing and publishing skills
  • Experience in journalism is an asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian agriculture or finance is an asset
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
