Tyler Woodman is honored with the Richard Caverly Memorial Dairy Award for his leadership, cattle breeding expertise, and strong dedication to mentoring dairy youth in the industry.

Tyler Woodman of Hadley, Massachusetts, is the 2025 recipient of the Richard Caverly Memorial Dairy Award, presented during World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. The award honors Richard Caverly’s legacy of dairy breeding, mentorship, and dedication to youth in agriculture.

The award, created in 2024 by friends of Caverly, is given annually to an individual aged 18–30 who demonstrates his qualities of animal husbandry, mentorship, and passion for dairy cattle.

Woodman is the herd manager at Mapleline Farm, overseeing a Jersey herd that produces high-quality milk for dairy products across Massachusetts. He grew up working with Ayrshire cattle and continues to develop his own herd under the Woodman Farm prefix. With his wife Toni, he also raises Jerseys under the Wood Valley prefix.

His efforts in breeding have already led to nearly 20 All-American and Junior All-American nominations, along with Reserve All-Canadian honors.

Beyond farm management, Woodman has built experience fitting cattle at shows and sales across the United States and Canada. He is recognized for his skill in genetic selection, always studying pedigrees, sire catalogs, and genomic data to guide progressive breeding decisions.

His leadership extends to youth mentorship. A New Hampshire 4-H alumnus, Woodman supports the Massachusetts 4-H Calf Sale each year and recently co-organized the Stars and Stripes sale in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The event featured youth workshops on cattle fitting, show preparation, and judging.

Nominations highlighted Woodman’s impact on youth, with many noting his patience, advice, and encouragement. Comments included, “he has given me the best tips for showmanship, fitting and judging” and “Tyler always has time to discuss pedigrees and mating choices for my cattle.” These qualities align closely with the values Richard Caverly represented.

As part of the award, Woodman received a plaque and the traveling trophy—an intricate wooden carving of Glenamore Gold Prize EX-97-6E, a cow fondly remembered by Caverly.

The Richard Caverly Memorial Dairy Fund continues to support youth initiatives, ensuring Caverly’s passion for mentorship lives on.
