The University of Illinois Extension has recently expanded its team, adding Tara Heath as the new Extension crops educator for the counties of Fulton, Mason, Peoria, and Tazewell.

This strategic appointment aims to bolster the Extension's mission of delivering research-based, unbiased agricultural information directly to landowners, producers, and industry professionals amid the rapidly evolving agriculture sector.

Tara Heath, who has deep roots in agricultural practice and education, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

Having earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture with a focus on horticulture from Western Illinois University and a Master of Science in crop sciences from the University of Illinois, Heath is well-equipped to address both traditional and emerging agricultural needs.

Her educational background is complemented by her practical farming experience on her family's 3,000-acre operation in McDonough County, where she has been deeply involved in all aspects of farm management.

Heath served as a horticulture program coordinator for the Extension, where she also became a trained facilitator for Annie’s Project.

While her primary focus will be on traditional crops like corn and soybeans, Heath's expertise in horticulture enables her to also support the cultivation of specialty crops such as pumpkins, grapes, and agroforestry.

Heath's appointment is a crucial development for the Illinois Extension, promising to enhance the delivery of cutting-edge agricultural education and support to the region’s farmers.
