Dr. Yuxiang Sun and Dr. Shaodong Guo, professors at the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, have been named 2025 Chancellor EDGES Fellows for their outstanding contributions to nutrition research. The EDGES Fellowships, launched in 2019 by The Texas A&M University System, honor mid-career faculty members with national and international recognition.
Sun and Guo are two of 17 faculty members from across the system selected for this prestigious title. Each recipient may use the title “Chancellor EDGES Fellow,” which is awarded to scholars advancing research and academic excellence.
Dr. Sun, an AgriLife Research Faculty Fellow and associate department head for graduate programs in the Department of Nutrition, has earned global recognition for her research on the hunger hormone, ghrelin. Her work explores the connections between ghrelin signalling and health issues like obesity, insulin resistance, inflammation, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Her focus on immunometabolism, inflammaging, and neuroinflammation has opened doors to new treatment possibilities. “Dr. Sun and Dr. Guo have devoted themselves to advancing our discipline and improving global health,” said Dr. David Threadgill, department head. “They both deserve this honor as they are at the forefront of their fields and are elevating human health.”
Dr. Guo, a Presidential Impact Fellow, studies insulin signal transduction and how it links to insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease. His research aims to create nutritional and medical treatments for diabetes and related disorders.
He also investigates how estrogen impacts insulin resistance and reduces the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
Both scholars are setting new standards in nutrition science and improving global health through their work.
