Sanah Baig joins the Plant Based Foods Institute as Executive Director, aiming to reshape the food system with a focus on plant-based innovations.

The Plant Based Foods Institute (PBFI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sanah Baig as its new Executive Director, effective June 9, 2025.  

 

Baig brings a wealth of experience from her recent role as a Senior Policy Advisor for Agriculture and Nutrition at the White House and her tenure as Deputy Under Secretary at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).  

 

At the USDA, she led a significant scientific initiative, managing over $4 billion focused on agricultural innovation. Her efforts have primarily concentrated on enhancing climate resilience, improving nutrition security, and promoting equity in food systems. 

 

Baig's career is distinguished by her influential positions across both public service and the nonprofit sector. Prior to her government roles, she was the Chief of Staff at the Good Food Institute and a Program Director at the National Association of Counties.  

 

Her extensive experience is complemented by her active participation on boards and advisory committees, including her role as a founding board member of Food Policy Pathways and an advisor to Plant Futures. 

 

Her appointment at PBFI comes at a critical juncture as the institute aims to place plant-based foods at the forefront of the global food agenda.  

 

Baig expressed her enthusiasm about her new role, emphasizing the unique opportunity to design a plant-centric food system that addresses current and future challenges. 

 

PBFI expects to drive significant advancements in the plant-based food sector, leveraging her expertise in policy making and program management.  

 

Baig’s strategic vision is set to influence how plant-based foods contribute to health, sustainability, and economic growth, reflecting PBFI’s commitment to transforming agricultural practices and food consumption globally. 

 

The Plant Based Foods Institute continues to advocate for the adoption and development of plant-based foods, supporting sustainable agricultural practices and healthier dietary choices worldwide.
