Rebecca Mayerle and Keenan Karish have been selected as recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Young Farmers Memorial Scholarships, recognizing their passion for Canadian agriculture and commitment to its sustainable future.

The 2025 Outstanding Young Farmers (OYF) Memorial Scholarship winners have been announced, honoring two young Canadians who are shaping the future of agriculture through education, innovation, and community involvement.

Rebecca Mayerle of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, and Keenan Karish of Fraserwood, Manitoba, have each received a $1,000 scholarship to support their post-secondary agricultural studies.

Rebecca’s passion for agriculture began early, but her interest deepened during the global pandemic when she became actively involved in her family’s farm operations. Participating in daily tasks taught her valuable lessons about Canadian farming and inspired her to pursue a future in crop science.

She also enjoys hosting Ag in the Classroom events on her family farm, sharing the story of where food comes from. Now studying at the University of Saskatchewan, Rebecca hopes to use science and research to improve crop production and help agriculture continue feeding the world.

For Keenan, farming represents a living legacy. While studying at the University of Manitoba, he manages his family’s beef operation, which spans more than a century of agricultural tradition. He has introduced regenerative practices such as rotational grazing and covering crops to improve soil health and sustainability.

Keenan also volunteers at a local veterinary clinic, preparing for his future studies in Veterinary Medicine. He plans to return to rural Manitoba to share his knowledge and strengthen his community’s agricultural roots.

The OYF Memorial Scholarship includes two annual awards — one for students already pursuing post-secondary agriculture education and one for those beginning their studies. Applications require an essay about the applicant’s passion for Canadian agriculture.

More details and application forms are available at www.oyfcanada.com. The deadline for nominations is June 30, 2026.

Now celebrating 45 years, Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program continues to recognize excellence, innovation, and leadership among the country’s agricultural producers.
