Purdue University has announced Professor Paul Ebner as the new head of its Department of Animal Sciences.
The Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture, Bernie Engel, highlighted Ebner's robust endorsement from his peers and his notable contributions both within and outside of Purdue.
Ebner's journey in animal sciences is marked by an extensive and diverse background. After earning a degree in political science from Kalamazoo College, Michigan, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, assisting poultry and swine producers.
He later acquired master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Tennessee, followed by postdoctoral research in microbiology and immunology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
Ebner has been instrumental in developing international extension programs aimed at improving agricultural practices and food safety worldwide.
His initiatives include working with Pakistani universities to reduce antibiotic use in poultry, enhancing vegetable safety in Cambodia's informal markets, and collaborating with governmental ministries in the Dominican Republic to boost food safety and export capabilities.
Ebner played a pivotal role in establishing the Department of Food Technology at Herat University in Afghanistan, a landmark development for the country's educational infrastructure in food technology.
