The University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) community celebrates the achievements of several faculty members and students recognized nationally and internationally for their excellence in research, teaching, and leadership.
Honours and Awards
- Rohit Bhusal and Hongzhi Guo received the Best Paper Runner-Up Award at the 22nd IEEE International Conference on Mobile Ad-Hoc and Smart Systems in Chicago. Their research, “Edge-Assisted Generative AI-Driven Video Communication Using Topological Data Analysis,” earned praise for its innovation.
- Kyra Elliott received the 2025 Dr. Bobby VanStavern Award from the American Meat Science Association for her beef quality research, focusing on marbling prediction in ribeye cuts.
- Crystal Garcia earned the 2025 ASHE Leadership Award for advancing research and visibility in higher education.
- Abla Hasan, professor of practice of Arabic language and culture, received the Inspire Women’s Excellence in Education Award 2025 for building and leading UNL’s Arabic studies program.
- Casey Kelly, professor of communication studies, received the Douglas E. Ehninger Distinguished Rhetorical Scholar Award from the National Communication Association for his research on rhetoric and politics.
- Kaustav Majumder, associate professor of food science and technology, received the Young Scientist Award from the International Society of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods for his work on bioactive food proteins.
- Krishna Muvva, a doctoral candidate in computing, received the 2025 AIAA Orville and Wilbur Wright Graduate Award for his work on deep learning-based drone perception and control.
Appointments
- Nirupam Aich, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been appointed Associate Editor of the Journal of Hazardous Materials: Organics.
- Aich has also joined the Board of Directors of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors, recognizing his leadership in sustainable water treatment research.
These achievements showcase the university’s commitment to fostering academic innovation, leadership, and community impact across disciplines.
