Curious Plot announced a planned leadership transition as part of its long-term succession plan. Laurie Fleck stepped down as chief executive officer and retired after 15 years with the agency. Mitch Van Kampen was promoted to CEO while continuing his role as president, effective May 1, 2026.
During Fleck’s leadership, the company showed strong growth. The agency nearly tripled its total billings and more than doubled its team size. It also expanded its services and strengthened its focus on food, agriculture, and companion animal care clients. Curious Plot operated from Minneapolis with over 125 team members working across 20 states.
“The role of CEO was not meant to be permanent for me. It was always meant to be purposeful,” Fleck said. “I'm proud of what we've built and how we've built it. This transition has been thoughtfully planned, and it's the right time for new leadership to take the agency forward. I'm so very excited for Mitch and for what's next for Curious Plot.”
The leadership change came at an important time for the company. It aligned with strong financial performance and the fifth anniversary of the agency’s rebranding as Curious Plot. Fleck also highlighted the importance of building a strong leadership team to support future growth.
Recent promotions strengthened the executive team. Brita Bader became EVP and Chief Financial Officer, Matt Lunneborg became EVP and Chief Creative Officer, Cody Ramey became EVP and Chief Strategy Officer, and Alison Rauchwarter became EVP and Chief Account Officer. They joined experienced leaders already guiding the company.
Van Kampen, who had worked with the company for 14 years, then led the next phase. He focused on building strong client relationships, supporting growth, and delivering strategic services.
“Laurie's leadership has been defining for Curious Plot,” Van Kampen said. “She led with high standards and a clear point of view, building a team that is not only ready for what's next but is actively shaping it.”
This leadership transition positioned Curious Plot for continued success and long-term growth in the agriculture and marketing industry.
