Michigan is making higher education more accessible and affordable for 56,100 students through the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
Announced by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), this initiative includes two key programs - the Community College Guarantee and the Michigan Achievement Skills Scholarship, collectively saving families over $131.5 million this year—an average of $2,345 per student.
The Michigan Achievement Scholarship was designed to lower the financial barriers for students pursuing higher education in Michigan.
Eligibility requires graduation from a Michigan high school or completion of a high school equivalency certificate, alongside filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The program’s recent expansion includes the Community College Guarantee, which provides a tuition-free route for eligible students to earn an associate degree or skill certificate.
This guarantee has already benefited more than 15,800 students this semester alone, offering an average saving of nearly $1,370.
Additionally, for the 2024-2025 academic year, 135 students received support to enroll at eligible career training centers under the Michigan Achievement Skills Scholarship.
The scholarship's broader offerings include up to $27,500 for attending a Michigan college or university, and up to $4,000 for earning industry-recognized certificates, providing various opportunities depending on the student’s educational goals.
