Melinda Spaur of Windsor High School wins Colorado Outstanding Agriculture Teacher Award, recognized for leadership, program development, and her role in shaping future agricultural leaders through teaching and FFA involvement.

Melinda Spaur, an agriculture teacher at Windsor High School, has been recognized with the Colorado Vocational Ag Teachers Association (CVATA) 2024–2025 Colorado Outstanding Agriculture Teacher Award. This honor celebrates educators who inspire limitless learning and prepare students for future success.

The Outstanding Agriculture Teacher Award recognizes members who show leadership, innovation, and dedication to agricultural education. The award highlights the role of teachers in developing the next generation of agricultural leaders. Recipients are honored for their classroom achievements, program development, and commitment to lifelong learning.

Spaur has taught at Windsor High School since 2008. During her career, she has taught every subject in the Agriculture Department, with her favorites including Horticulture, Floriculture, and Food Science. In addition, she serves as an advisor for the school’s FFA chapter. Under her guidance, the chapter has earned state and national honors. For the 2025–2026 school year, Spaur will lead the Wizard Workshop, a student-based enterprise program designed to give students hands-on business experience.

Her academic background includes earning a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education from Colorado State University in 2006 and a master’s degree in Agriculture Education from Colorado State University in 2010.

CVATA, which presented the award, is the state’s professional organization for agriculture science teachers and supporters of agricultural education. The association promotes high standards of teaching, provides professional development, and serves as the unified voice for agriculture education in the state legislature. CVATA also serves as the Colorado chapter of the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).

As this year’s state award recipient, Spaur is now eligible to compete for the regional award. Winners at the regional level advance to the National Agriculture Teacher Award, which is presented at the NAAE Convention.

Spaur’s recognition reflects her ongoing dedication to agricultural education and her impact on students who will become the future leaders of agriculture.
