Luke McCrea receives the ASA BASF Soy Scholarship for strong academic’s leadership in agriculture organizations community service and plans to study agriculture communications at Iowa State University this fall.

Luke McCrea of Faribault has been selected as the recipient of the 2026-2027 Soy Scholarship sponsored by the American Soybean Association and BASF. The scholarship recognizes outstanding students who show excellence in academics, leadership, and community involvement while planning to pursue careers connected to agriculture.
 

The ASA/BASF Soy Scholarship awards $7,000 to a high school senior who plans to study an agriculture-related field at an accredited college or university. The program is open to children and grandchildren of ASA members and is designed to support future agricultural leaders.
 

“ASA is proud to partner with BASF in supporting initiatives that equip and inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders,” said Scott Metzger, ASA President and a farmer from Ohio. “By investing in promising individuals like Luke, we are helping cultivate a strong, innovative future for agriculture.”
 

Luke plans to attend Iowa State University this fall, where he will study agriculture communications. Throughout high school, he has taken part in many agricultural leadership activities through 4-H and Future Farmers of America.
 

He served as president of his local FFA chapter and helped expand participation in the organization at his school. Luke also worked as a regional officer and president, helping organize leadership conferences that support and encourage young people interested in agriculture.
 

In addition to academics and agriculture programs, Luke stays active in community service and civic leadership activities. He participated in the American Legion Minnesota Boys State program, which teaches students about leadership, citizenship, and government through hands-on learning experiences. He also volunteers regularly in both his school and local community.
