Mississippi State University (MSU) Extension is set to welcome a new soybean specialist, Justin Calhoun, starting February 2025.

Calhoun, a seasoned soil and cropping systems expert, will be returning to MSU, where he previously earned his advanced degrees in weed science.

Having served as an assistant Extension professor at the University of Missouri since 2021, Calhoun brings a robust background in agricultural science to his new role at MSU.

His expertise ranges from developing sustainable cropping systems to enhancing soil fertility and pest management techniques.

His prior work at the University of Missouri’s Fisher Delta Research, Extension and Education Center in Portageville has prepared him well for addressing the complex challenges faced by soybean producers in Mississippi.

Calhoun’s responsibilities at MSU will include being the primary contact for all soybean production-related inquiries.

He will oversee educational programs aimed at growers, consultants, and MSU Extension agents, ensuring that they are equipped with the latest research and best practices in soybean cultivation.

The announcement of Calhoun’s appointment was made by MSU Extension Director Angus Catchot during the annual MSU Row Crop Short Course in December.
