NGFA supports Dr. Julie Callahan’s nomination as Chief Agricultural Negotiator, recognizing her leadership, experience, and commitment to promoting strong U.S. agricultural trade and expanding global market opportunities.

The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) welcomes the Senate Finance Committee’s review of Dr. Julie Callahan’s nomination to serve as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). NGFA views this step as an important move toward ensuring strong U.S. leadership in agricultural trade.

Dr. Callahan brings extensive experience and a record of success in advancing U.S. agricultural exports. Her deep understanding of global markets and strong leadership make her well-suited to represent American farmers, agribusinesses, and exporters worldwide.

“Dr. Callahan is the perfect person at this critical juncture,” said NGFA President and CEO Mike Seyfert. “With global markets evolving rapidly and agricultural trade facing growing challenges, her experience and steady leadership will strengthen America’s position abroad. She is an excellent choice, and we encourage the Senate to swiftly advance her nomination to confirmation.”

NGFA emphasized that confirming Dr. Callahan would provide much-needed stability and leadership for the U.S. grain, feed, and export sectors. Her confirmation would ensure continued progress in expanding market access, reducing trade barriers, and supporting fair, science-based trade standards across global markets.

In a letter addressed to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), NGFA and other agricultural organizations praised Dr. Callahan’s extensive background in international trade.

They noted her strong advocacy for U.S. farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, and rural communities as key to advancing the nation’s agricultural interests globally.

With her leadership, the U.S. agricultural industry expects to strengthen its global presence, open new markets, and ensure that fair and transparent trade practices continue to support rural economies and food security.
