The 2025 International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo (FEW) celebrates top contributors to the ethanol sector. Industry leaders and rising student stars are honored for their work in innovation, policy, sustainability, and education.

Gillian Harrison, CEO of Whitefox Technologies, receives the Women in Ethanol Award for leading her company’s growth and innovation. She helps launch the ICE XL membrane dehydration system, improving ethanol plant efficiency and cutting energy use. Her leadership supports over 1.2 billion gallons of ethanol production and prevents 500,000 tons of CO? emissions.

“Now in its third year, the Women in Ethanol Award is designed to lift up and commend the women making critical and everyday impacts in this industry,” says Anna Simet, director of content at BBI International.

Steffen Mueller, principal economist at the University of Illinois at Chicago, earned the Award of Excellence for research that influences ethanol policies. He coauthors a land use model and studies fuel emissions, helping advance biofuel science and sustainability.

Rick Schwarck, president of Absolute Energy, is honored with the Distinguished Service Award for his long-term leadership in ethanol. He supports research, promotes renewable fuels, and brings unity during industry changes.

Michael Jerke, CEO of Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy, won the High-Octane Award. With over 20 years in ethanol, he supports policies for cleaner fuel and helps maintain ethanol as a strong economic tool in rural areas.

Two students earned the Kathy Bryan Memorial Scholarship. Isaac Harder plans to study pre-engineering, and Claire Weibye will study chemical engineering. Both are recognized for academic success and their interest in advancing biofuels.

“This year’s award recipients represent the very best of the ethanol industry—visionary leadership, scientific integrity, tireless advocacy and a deep commitment to sustainability,” says John Nelson, chief operating officer at BBI International.

The 41st FEW welcomes over 2,400 experts, 500 producers, and 370 companies to its growing event.
