International Ministries (IM) has announced the appointment of Dr. Becky Shenton as the new Area Director for East and South Asia. Becky takes over from Rev. Benjamin Chan, who retired after serving in the ministry for 32 years.
Dr. Becky Shenton brings a strong background in ethics, education, and nonprofit leadership. She holds a Ph.D. in ethics and philosophy and has taught ethics at different educational levels in the United States and Asia for a decade.
Her leadership roles in nonprofit organizations, including her work with the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society, add valuable experience to her new role.
Since 2018, Becky has served as a Special Assistant for Nepal Relations with IM. She has built close connections with IM global servants and partners across East and South Asia.
She also contributed to the Community Social Enterprise Development (CSED) Initiative, launched in 2022 with Northeast Christian University in India. This project focuses on training individuals to create businesses that address important social needs.
Becky officially began her new role on April 14. She now joins the strong team of IM Area Directors, which includes Adalia Gutierrez-Lee for Iberoamerica and the Caribbean, Karen Smith for Africa, Kyle Witmer for Southeast Asia and Japan, and Reid Trulson, who is serving as Interim Area Director for Europe and the Middle East.
Her leadership is expected to continue building strong relationships with partners and promoting community development efforts throughout East and South Asia.
