Prairie Swine Centre (PSC) announces the appointment of Dr Atta Agyekum as Research Scientist in Nutrition, effective July 14, 2025. Dr Agyekum returns to PSC with over ten years of experience in Canada’s pork industry, including roles in research and commercial sectors.
Dr Agyekum completed his Ph.D. and postdoctoral training at PSC, where he studied ways to improve sow welfare and reproductive performance using processed straw in loose housing systems. He also conducted research on the pig gut microbiome at the University of Saskatchewan.
Dr Agyekum expresses enthusiasm about returning to PSC, stating, “I am thrilled to return after seven years away from the Centre, to pursue my research interests in my area of specialization.” He looks forward to advancing agricultural science and continuing PSC’s strong tradition of supporting the pork industry.
His research expertise includes swine nutrition, welfare improvement, and microbiome analysis, which are critical areas for enhancing pork production efficiency and animal health.
The appointment strengthens PSC’s commitment to innovation and applied research, benefiting producers and the swine industry at large. Dr Agyekum’s return brings valuable continuity and new energy to ongoing projects at the Centre.
