Dale and Lynnae Dick receive the 2025 Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) Outstanding Young Dairy Cooperators (OYDC) award. The couple represents a new generation of dairy leaders committed to animal care, community service, and environmental stewardship.
The Dicks operate Dick Haven Dairy LLC in McBain, Michigan, alongside Dale’s brother Mark and father Gordon. Their sixth-generation farm, established in 1890, milks 300 Jersey and Holstein cows and manages 1,200 acres of farmland. This recognition highlights their long-standing tradition of responsible farming and community involvement.
“On our farm we focus on transparency, education and responsible management,” Dale said. “We emphasize that we are a family farm, and like the families we serve, we consume the products we produce. This connection motivates us to maintain high standards of animal welfare and environmental stewardship.”
As part of this honor, Dale and Lynnae will represent MMPA at industry events and association activities throughout the year. Their recognition underscores the cooperative’s commitment to building future leaders in the dairy industry.
Joining them are Mason and Whitney Smith of Homer, Michigan, named 2025 runner-up cooperators, and finalist Carson Evans of Litchfield, Michigan. The Smiths milk 200 cows on 1,000 acres, while Evans runs a second-generation farm with 220 cows and 1,200 acres.
According to MMPA board chairman Doug Chapin, “The OYDC program is a fundamental tool in encouraging young dairy cooperators to network and learn more about their cooperative to help identify future leaders and recognize their efforts.” Chapin and his wife were OYDC runners-up in 1990.
Since 1950, the OYDC program has honored young farmers who demonstrate leadership, commitment to quality milk production, and dedication to their communities. The Dicks’ award reflects their strong work ethic and ongoing efforts to preserve Michigan’s dairy heritage.
