Commissioner Jonathan Shell appoints and reappoints members to two major Kentucky agriculture boards, focusing on financial support, lending, and growth opportunities for farmers, agribusinesses, and rural communities.

Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell has recently announced several appointments and reappointments to two key agricultural boards: the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation (KAFC) and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board (KADB). These appointments support the state’s goal of promoting agricultural growth and financial access for farmers and agribusinesses.

Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation (KAFC)

The KAFC works to provide low-interest loans to beginning farmers, family farms, and agribusinesses through partnerships with local banks. Its mission is to strengthen Kentucky agriculture by helping individuals and businesses get the capital needed to grow and succeed.

Commissioner Shell made the following appointments:

  • Linda Rumpke of Lexington has been reappointed to represent commercial lenders. Her term ends June 26, 2029.

  • Frank Penn of Lexington has been reappointed to represent the equine industry. His term ends June 26, 2029.

  • Steve Olt of Greensburg has been appointed to represent dairy farmers. His term ends June 26, 2029.

Kentucky Agricultural Development Board (KADB)

The KADB provides grants and support to help farmers and agribusinesses innovate and grow their operations. The board helps guide agricultural progress across the state.

Commissioner Shell reappointed the following individuals:

  • Heather Graham of Campton will represent active farmers. Her term ends July 6, 2029.

  • Fritz Giesecke of Horse Cave will represent the Kentucky Farm Bureau. His term ends July 6, 2029.

“KAFC assists beginning farmers, farm families, and agribusinesses obtain the necessary capital to establish, maintain, or expand their agricultural operation.”

Both KAFC and KADB meet monthly to review loan and grant applications. More details on board activities and meeting schedules are available on the Kentucky Department of Agriculture website.
