Christina Grozinger takes over as director of the Huck Institutes, promising advanced research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Penn State has announced Christina Grozinger as the new director of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. Grozinger, a distinguished figure in entomology, will assume her new role on March 15, succeeding Patrick Drew.

Her appointment was celebrated during an event at Penn State, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career.

With over two decades of groundbreaking research in pollinator health and social insect behavior, Grozinger’s work has notably enhanced Penn State’s reputation in scientific circles.

She has secured more than $20 million in funding and has authored over 160 research articles, reflecting her prominence in the global scientific community.

Grozinger’s responsibilities as director will include steering the strategic direction of the institute and fostering an environment that encourages scientific discovery across diverse disciplines.

Her previous roles at Penn State, including leading the Center for Pollinator Research and directing both the Insect Biodiversity Center and the Technology for Living Systems Center, have prepared her well for this comprehensive leadership role.

Her academic credentials are equally impressive, with degrees from McGill University and Harvard University, and postdoctoral work at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Grozinger’s research spans genomics to ecology, addressing critical topics like intragenomic conflict and the development of decision-support tools for beekeepers.

The Huck Institutes stand at the forefront of interdisciplinary research, with over 30 research centers and participation from more than 600 faculty researchers.
