The Honourable Heath MacDonald has announced the reappointment of Brian Douglas as Chairperson of the Farm Products Council of Canada. His new term will begin on June 11, 2026, and will continue until October 2, 2027. This decision reflects strong confidence in his leadership and continued contribution to Canada’s agriculture sector.
Mr. Douglas is a graduate of the University of Guelph and brings 41 years of distinguished public service experience. Over his long career, he has developed a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges faced by Canadian producers. His work has helped shape agricultural policies and strengthen systems that support farmers across the country.
He has held several senior leadership roles within the Government of Prince Edward Island. These include serving as Clerk of the Executive and Secretary to the Cabinet, along with Deputy Minister roles in Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, and Agriculture. Most of his career was spent with the PEI Department of Agriculture, where he led the Agriculture Resource Division and Farm Extension Services. In these roles, he worked closely with producers and communities to improve agricultural practices and support rural development.
Mr. Douglas has also represented Prince Edward Island on many provincial and national boards and committees related to agriculture and infrastructure. For the past four years, he has served as Chairperson and Deputy Head of the FPCC, helping guide the organization and advance its mandate. His continued leadership is expected to support stability and growth within the sector.

The FPCC is a federal oversight body that supervises marketing agencies involved in Canada’s supply management system for poultry and eggs. It also oversees promotion and research agencies. The council plays an important role in promoting an efficient and competitive agriculture industry. In addition, it advises the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food on matters related to agencies established under the Farm Products Agencies Act and the Agricultural Products Marketing Act.
