Ashley Michels joins USMEF as communications director, adding strong journalism experience to support global meat exports and deliver clear, trusted information to agriculture members and media partners.
The U.S. Meat Export Federation announces that Ashley Michels will join its communications team as communications director. The organization highlights her strong background in journalism and public affairs reporting as a valuable addition to its work.

Ashley Michels brings more than a decade of experience in broadcast journalism. For 12 years, she has worked as a news anchor and reporter with KDVR TV, the Denver area FOX affiliate, and its sister station on KWGN TV. During this time, she also hosts the weekly public affairs program at Colorado Point of View. Her work focuses on clear reporting, strong analysis, and helping audiences understand complex topics.

USMEF explains that clear communication is a key part of its mission. The organization supports U.S. beef, pork, and lamb exports by sharing market updates, policy developments, and global trade information. These topics often involve complex global issues, and USMEF aims to present them in a simple and timely way for its members and agricultural media.

“USMEF is very excited to add Ashley Michels to our communications team, where her reporting and analytical skills will be a tremendous asset,” said Dan Halstrom, USMEF president and CEO. “Our members depend on USMEF to promptly break down and summarize complex issues from across the globe, and we see this as one of Ashley’s many strengths. USMEF also takes great pride in the quality of information we provide to agricultural media, and her skill set will further enhance these efforts.”

Michels has a strong educational background that supports her professional experience. She graduates from Northern Illinois University and also earns a master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Before working in the Denver television market, she serves as a multimedia journalist at WCIA TV in Springfield.

USMEF believes Michels’ experience in reporting, analysis, and public communication will help strengthen its outreach efforts. Her role supports the organization’s goal of delivering clear, accurate, and trusted information to farmers, ranchers, exporters, and industry partners across the agriculture sector.
