Anna Kate Shoveller joins the University of Kentucky as director of the Higgins Neyland Companion Animal Program, brings strong experience in animal nutrition, research, teaching, and industry collaboration to support student success.

The University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment names Anna Kate Shoveller as director of the Higgins-Neyland Companion Animal Program. She will also serve as a professor in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences. She is expected to join the university in 2027.
 

Shoveller is known worldwide for her work in companion animal nutrition and metabolism. She brings many years of experience in research, teaching, and working with industry partners. Her leadership is expected to support new learning and research opportunities for students and faculty.
 

She currently works at the University of Guelph as a professor in the Department of Animal Biosciences. In her current role, she holds key leadership positions. She serves as the Champion Petfoods Research Chair in Canine and Feline Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism. She is also a University of Guelph Research Leadership Chair. These roles show her strong contribution to animal science and innovation.
 

The Higgins-Neyland Companion Animal Program plays an important role in the college. It supports student learning, promotes teamwork across different subjects, and builds strong ties with industry. The program helps prepare students for careers in animal care, research, and nutrition.
 

With Shoveller’s leadership, the program is expected to grow and improve. Her global experience will help bring new ideas and strengthen research programs. It will also support better connections with industry, creating more career opportunities for students.
