Job Description: 
The Farm Financial Analyst/Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving the financial and operational success of our farm operations in Eastern Idaho. This individual will leverage advanced data analytics, financial modeling, and statistical techniques to analyze farm profitability and assist in analyzing growing practices to help ensure the highest quality crops are produced at the lowest possible cost. Additionally, this role will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our farm information system to ensure accurate, real-time data is available for decision-making. 

 

The ideal candidate will have a background in business intelligence systems, data engineering, financial analysis, and agricultural systems, with a proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, statistical analysis, and financial systems is essential. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Business Financial Analysis & Profitability Optimization:  
  • Analyze farm financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. 
  • Develop financial models to forecast profitability and assess the impact of different growing practices. 
  • Monitor and report on key financial metrics, including cost per acre, yield per acre, and return on investment (ROI). 

 

Data-Driven Growing Practices:  

  • Use data engineering techniques to analyze crop performance 
  • Identify opportunities to improve crop quality while reducing costs through data-driven insights. 
  • Collaborate with farm operations teams to implement best practices based on analytical findings. 

 

Farm Information System Management:  

  • Maintain and update the farm information system to ensure accurate and timely data collection. 
  • Develop dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI to visualize key performance indicators (KPIs)/Key Metrics. 
  • Ensure data integrity and security across all farm systems. 

 

Statistical Analysis & Predictive Modeling:  

  • Apply statistical methods to analyze historical data and predict future outcomes. 
  • Build predictive models to optimize planting schedules, irrigation, and harvest timing. 
  • Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate the impact of different variables on farm performance. 


Collaboration & Reporting:  

  • Work closely with farm managers, agronomists, and financial teams to align data insights with operational goals. 
  • Prepare and present detailed reports to senior management, highlighting actionable recommendations. 
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in agriculture and data science. 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications: 

Technical Skills:  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, or SAS). 
  • Experience with financial modeling and analysis software (e.g., Excel, NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar). 
  • Familiarity with farm management software and agricultural data systems (e.g. preferably AgWorld). 
  • Basic understanding of database theory &/or management (e.g., SQL) and data integration techniques. (database management not required but understanding databases if preferred.) 

 

Analytical Skills:  

  • Strong ability to analyze large datasets and derive actionable insights. 
  • Expertise in predictive modeling, regression analysis, and machine learning techniques. 
  • Experience with cost-benefit analysis and ROI calculations. 

 

Agricultural Knowledge:  

  • Basic understanding of crop production and farm operations. 
  • Familiarity with agricultural economics and supply chain management. 
  • Ability to translate agronomic data into financial and operational insights. 

 

Soft Skills:  

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. 
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. 
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and integrity. 

 

Education & Experience:  

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Agricultural Economics, Accounting, Finance, Statistics, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, data science, or agricultural analytics. 
  • Experience in the agriculture industry or with farm operations is a strong plus. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with precision agriculture technologies (e.g., GPS, remote sensing, IoT sensors). 
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and their impact on farm profitability. 
  • Familiarity with government agricultural programs and subsidies.
