AgCareers.com and FCAE Collaborate to Promote Careers in Agriculture
October 03, 2012
RANTOUL, IL (October 3, 2012) - Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education (FCAE) partnered with AgCareers.com to develop career profiles for fifty-eight agricultural careers. Career profiles were developed in each of the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources pathways – Plant Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Business, Environmental Services, Food Science, and Natural Resources.
The career profiles include a promotional poster, career narrative, and a career map. The poster includes a descriptive image and a brief summary of the career. The career narrative profiles an individual in the career and outlines their job responsibilities, explains why they chose the career, and identified the challenging and/or rewarding aspects of the job. The career map is designed to provide students with a plan as to how to pursue the career and includes the following items: suggested high school courses, experience needed, degrees required, potential employers, salary range, employment outlook and trends, and professional organizations.
The partnership between AgCareers.com and FCAE allowed for integration of ‘real-time’ career details and salary information from active job postings on AgCareers.com to be integrated into each profile. Students, parents, teachers, career counselors, or the general public may access the career profiles at http://www.mycaert.com/career-profiles. The career profiles have also been connected to the lesson plans and associated resources for teachers and students at MyCAERT.com. For example, as students learn about the six-step selling process they are directed to the Sales Representative career profile
This project was funded as part of a grant through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB).
