AgCareers.com Webinar Discusses Motivating Employees through Performance Management
February 24, 2012

AgCareers.com hosted the “Maximizing your Employees’ Performance” webinar on Friday, February 24, 2012. Dr. Sara Mann, Associate Professor, Strategic HRM and Organizational Behavior, University of Guelph, Ontario, shared suggestions for using a performance management system to evaluate and reward employees.

Mann noted that only 60% of employees currently receive performance appraisals, even though they are essential for motivating employees to achieve maximum performance. Supervisors need to take time to find out what motivates each employee and customize goals and rewards for the individual.

It was stressed that the most important aspect of reviews are the perception of fairness by employees. Fairness should be relative to others inside, but also outside the organization. Every performance management system needs to be 1) reliable, 2) valid, 3) practical, and 4) free from bias.
