National Pork Board and AgCareers.com to Explore Compensation within the Pork Industry
October 12, 2011

AgCareers.com has been selected by the National Pork Board to assist with a project to evaluate salaries and benefits within the pork industry. This project, funded by the Pork Checkoff, will provide the data necessary to offer keen insights into today’s wages in the swine industry.
One of the goals of this research is to have real-world data that proves that job opportunities in the pork industry not only exist today, but are rewarding in many ways, including financially.
“While the overall job picture may not be good, there are plenty of good opportunities in the pork industry for those who have the right skills,” said Jim Lummus, learning and performance manager for the Pork Checkoff. “We want to get the word out that working in the pork industry can offer a rewarding career, so working with AgCareers.com to get the facts on items such as salary and benefits just made sense.”
This survey is modeled after AgCareers.com’s established salary and human resources benchmark surveys. It will target large and mid-size producers within the U.S. to assess compensation packages. Information gathered will include salary and benefit ranges for varying levels of production and production support positions. As well, the survey will benchmark typical benefits offered by industry employers and human resources practices.
Lummus said, “The ultimate goal of this project is to provide an additional tool to elevate the image of careers in the swine industry and therefore the level of talent entering the industry workforce.”
“AgCareers.com is pleased to have been selected to collaborate on this project with the National Pork Board,” said AgCareers.com president, Eric Spell. “We feel like we have the necessary level of expertise and experience as it relates to collecting compensation information and conducting market research studies. But even more so, we have a passion for helping the industry attract and retain bright talent.”
AgCareers.com will begin contacting a targeted group of producers in mid-September to collect data for this project. To participate in this survey and receive a copy of the results, please email AgCareers.com at compensation@agcareers.com. Not only will monetary incentives be provided to those that participate, but as an industry member AgCareers.com and the National Pork Board hope that producers will do their part to help ensure a strong pipeline of talent to sustain the pork industry well into the future.  Thank you to Alltech for additional incentive support for this important project.
