AgCareers.com 2007 Business Development Intern Makes Big Impact

Clinton, NC -- AgCareers.com was pleased to have Ashley Schmidt, a Hallettsville,Texas native, as their Business Development Intern this summer.  AgCareers.com is the leading online career site and human resource service provider for agriculture, food, natural resources and biotechnology.

Ashley is a rising senior at Texas A&M University were she majors in animal science with a dual minor in agronomy and agricultural economics.  Her background in agriculture consists of growing up on the family rice farm and cattle ranch, contributing as an active FFA member, raising commercial cattle, and studying abroad to Brazil.  Ashley currently serves as the President of the AgForLife Student Association at Texas A&M University, is a member of Alpha Zeta, and was recently chosen as one of the twelve Agriculture Future of America 2007-2008 Student Advisory Team members.

As an intern, Ashley has been based in the AgCareers.com office in Ames, Iowa.  Her internship began May 16th and will continue until August 24th.  During the summer, she worked on numerous projects including; industry market research projects as well as an internship evaluation report, promoting the AgCareers.com US and Canadian Ag HR Roundtables, and overseeing an update to the AgCareers.com statistical analysis.  Additionally, Ashley helped coordinate and participate hospitality events for AgCareers.com and their parent company Farms.com during the 2007 World Pork Expo in Des Monies.

The past week in Des Monies, Iowa, on the campus of Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Ms. Schmidt represented her generation, the millennial’s, as a speaker on a generational panel at the 5th annual US Ag HR Roundtable.  Over 160 human resource and recruiting professionals representing over 85 employers in the agricultural industry, engaged in the conversation as to effective methods for recruiting and engaging millennial’s in their workforce.

As Ashley returns to Texas to finish her senior year at Texas A&M, AgCareers.com has invited her to continue her internship by working remotely from College Station.  “We are excited to have Ashley working with our team throughout the next year and we look forward to what she will be able to achieve,” says Spell.
