The agricultural industry is fortunate to have a variety of strong organizations to help mold students into future agricultural leaders, and to improve networking among professionals.  Two of those organizations, will hold their annual conferences March 29-31st, and AgCareers.com hopes to see you there!

The Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) organization finds its roots at Michigan State University with its establishment in 1982.  MANRRS strives to promote academic and professional advancement by empowering minorities in agriculture, natural resources and related sciences.  This is a national society that welcomes membership of people from all racial and ethnic groups who are involved in agriculture and related sciences careers.

Each spring, the MANRRS conference brings hundreds of past and present members together to discuss issues of interest and concern regarding diversity in agriculture and related areas. In addition to workshop sessions and keynote addresses by prominent individuals, the conference conducts a career fair for employers, from agricultural / natural resource industries and government, to meet with students and young professionals to discuss internship and full-time employment opportunities.  This year the conference is in Birmingham, AL and AgCareers.com is excited to attend the MANRRS Career Fair and host our workshop “Transitioning from School to Work…Success in Your First Year.”

As upcoming students are well prepared to be competitive in today’s job market, they often are not as prepared when it comes to the next step in the process.  Our workshop will share with the students that once you’ve achieved the goal of getting the job the next step in the process is to become a polished professional!  Topics such as workplace manners, dress expectations and communication essentials will all be discussed to ensure student’s success.   We sincerely hope to see you there.

Alpha Zeta is an honorary, professional society for students and industry professionals in the agriculture and natural resources fields. Founded in 1897 at Ohio State University, Alpha Zeta is the first and oldest collegiate society for agriculture. Today, Alpha Zeta has more than 115,000 alumni and more than 3,000 student members at 74 universities.

Alpha Zeta annually hosts the National Agricultural Leadership Conference (NALC), which focuses on professional development, leadership training and showcasing the unique agriculture industry in the host region.  This year the conference titled ‘The Gateway to Agriculture’ will be in St. Louis, MO.   Industry partners, alumni, and the national office, present workshops and seminars related to careers, leadership, chapter development and current topics in agriculture.  Alpha Zeta recently added a growing career fair to NALC as an opportunity for added networking.  AgCareers.com will be in attendance at the career fair as well as hosting a professional development workshop focusing on the new era of career networking.  Terms such as social networking, internet ethics, and generational divide are probably some of the new buzz words in your hiring department.  We want to make sure they are on college campuses as well!  Our workshop will help students be more aware of who they are and how they will fit into a changing workplace – that may or may not be ready for them.  We will also focus on being aware of your image in the virtual networking arena and the effects that image will have on their future career choices.

These two organizations have made a true impact on the quality of graduates entering the agricultural workforce by providing q
