Position: Field Crop Pathologist (permanent full-time)
Location: Winnipeg, MB, or Morden, MB (flexible hybrid)

 

DL Seeds is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our canola pathology activities in North America

 

Core responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Breeding Team to provide guidance and support the pathology phenotypic screening programs including protocol development, inoculum preparation, pathotype identification and scoring. Canola diseases include but are not limited to Blackleg, Clubroot, Sclerotinia, Fusarium wilt, and Verticillium Stripe.
  • Manage and lead the day-to-day activities pathology indoor and field screening programs including pathogen preparation, inoculation, ratings and data analysis.
  • Evaluate breeding lines in trial locations across Western Canada and USA.
  • Coordinate and plan in conjunction with DL Seeds’ Agronomy team to set-up and execute pathology field trial program.
  • Lead all pathology industry research projects.

 

Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Plant Pathology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Hands-on experience working with crop pathogens including canola is an asset.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and experimental trial design principles and software.
  • Strong verbal and written English skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with team members, industry partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Must be a resident of Canada.
  • Must have a valid drivers license. There is no public transportation to our research station locations.
  • Be willing to perform work in the field and travel throughout Canada.
