Job Description:

 

A rare opportunity for a progressive, farm manager to take the reins of a renowned university farm. Joining the organization at this time of significant change and rethinking of the way that the university farm operates, you will have considerable influence over its future direction.

The farm is 600 hectares in size and predominantly livestock focused - dairy, beef and sheep, with grass, legumes and cereals being grown for feed. As a university farm, its primary purpose is to support teaching and research and therefore you will be involved in trials and research projects.

As Farm Manager you will be responsible for day to day management of the farm, budgeting, health and safety and ensuring the farm maximises its commercial viability whilst supporting its academic purpose.

The successful candidate will be an experienced farm manager with excellent leadership and communication skills – not only will you manage the farm team but you will also work closely with a variety of people including lecturers, researchers and students at times.

 

The role:

  • Manage and oversee farm operations
  • Manage farm budget and business plan
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange, research and teaching
  • Involvement in research and trials
  • Team leadership – support and mentor staff
  • Ensure high levels of farm health and safety
  • Optimise farming income
  • Record keeping

 

About you:

  • Successful track record in farm management
  • Dairy, beef and sheep farming experience
  • Leadership skills
  • Driving licence
  • HND or BSc in Agriculture or related field (Desirable)
