Job Description:

 

Our client, a food manufacturer and distributor of consciously sourced or produced products, is searching for an Operations Manager. The Operations Manager is responsible for operation of the warehouse, production, inventory and transportation assets- including people, and processes.

 

This role will manage the overall operations footprint to improve productivity and minimize downtime, towards improved revenue generation and reducing costs. This is a position that involves meeting goals, creating workflow policies and procedures, creating/managing schedules, and encouraging staff to comply with the procedures, systems, and policies to ensure peak efficiency. The Operations Manager is part of the leadership team and will work collaboratively with other departments towards achieving customer fulfillment and leading service.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Production Scheduling:

  • Develop and maintain production schedules that align with customer demand and inventory levels.
  • Manage and coordinate all production activities, including smoking, and meat production.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as procurement and logistics, to ensure the timely availability of raw materials and finished products.
  • Adjust production schedules as necessary to accommodate changing priorities or unforeseen issues.

 

Leading team and driving results:

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor production leads and staff to achieve production targets.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the production team.
  • Implement data-driven processes to optimize production efficiency and quality.
  • Analyze production data, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track production performance.
  • Report on KPIs and take action to address any areas that do not meet targets.
  • Lead team and develop a succession plan for operations.

 

Labor Management:

  • Effectively manage the allocation and utilization of production staff to meet production goals.
  • Monitor labor costs and productivity, ensuring that labor resources are efficiently utilized.
  • Plan and oversee workforce schedules, including shift assignments and overtime as needed.
  • Liaison between sales and the production staff to ensure sales requirements are met.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of production personnel.
  • Guide team towards achieving zero lost time and medical aid incidents.

 

Quality Control and Continuous Improvement:

  • Establish and maintain rigorous quality control standards and procedures.
  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure products meet quality and safety standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the production process.
  • Identify and implement best practices to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Manage product yields without compromising quality.

 

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all production activities adhere to safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure safety of all personnel in the Production team.

 

DESIRED PROFILE:

  • 5+ years of experience in Production Management. Preference will be given to candidates from the food manufacturing industry.
  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership/supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office).
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures and best practices.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
