Under the general direction of the Lab Operations and Technology Support (LOTS) Team Leader, the candidate supports laboratory operations directed at the development of new agricultural products and new uses for existing products. The candidate will perform a variety of activities directed at facilitating the conduct and execution of studies in the laboratory.

  • Coordinate maintenance of instrumentation maintenance, functioning as a liaison between outside instrument maintenance vendors and the instrument users and researchers of labs in Indianapolis building 306 wings A1, B1, A2, B2, C2, and D2, utilized by the CPRS and CPPDP departments.
  • Work cross-functionally with DSI Team, CSV Team, and LOTS teams to validate systems to be used for GLP studies.
  • Assist LOTS Maintains and troubleshoots basic instrumentation, including balances, centrifuges, pH meters, high performance liquid chromatographs, gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, and liquid scintillation counters and coordinates instrument maintenance with onsite vendor, RAIS team, and other visiting onsite instrument maintenance vendors.
  • Ownership of ensuring installation and validation of new instrumentation as well as maintaining records and logs for current GLP equipment in CPRS and CPPDP laboratories.
  • Upkeep and stock LOTS instrumentation consumable and parts inventory for LOTS instrument maintenance, ordering supplies upon need and tracking parts-use by cost center.
  • Timely and quality preparation and shipment of solvents/standards, maintenance of inventory, ordering of supplies, and general maintenance of the laboratories as needed from CPPDP-AIPD and all CPRS analytical groups.
  • Assisting in LOTS Sample Management, this person will also be expected to perform hands-on Sample Management functions as needed. The following Sample Management activities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Incoming sample receipt, identification, numbering, and storage.
  2. Inputting sample information into the sample tracking LIMS system. Retrieving information and reports from sample tracking LIMS system.
  3. Preparation of field samples prior to analysis by the residue chemists, i.e., processing samples, mixing samples, aliquoting, etc.
  4. Maintaining an inventory of all samples and providing location information, while the samples are in CPRS Indianapolis custody.
  • Perform end-of-year equipment archiving and prepare for annual GLP facility audit, correcting any audit findings.
  • Documents activities in the required manner.  Maintenance of neat, accurate, and complete records.
  • Interface with essential individuals in the CPRS and CPPDP functions of Dow AgroSciences.  Interact positively with all members of the Indianapolis lab groups, vendors to foster a team approach to projects.
  • Comply with all laboratory safety procedures, EPA Good Laboratory Practice Standards, Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for use and handling of radioactive materials, and all other study-specific or pertinent regulatory agency requirements.


What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • High school diploma/GED required, Associate's degree preferred 
  • General knowledge of chemistry
  • An understanding of GLP regulations, analytical instrumentation, and laboratory techniques is desirable
  • Basic computer skills and be able to keep neat and accurate records.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office programs
