This position is part of an expanded, re-organized group that is working to develop and apply centralized data organizational principles for asking specific and broad questions about transgenic trait performance in the areas of discovery, construct optimization and early product development.  Specifically, we are looking for a skilled, dedicated, and creative bioinformatician to join the pipeline data management team. The new hire will collaborate with research scientists to develop and maintain tools to streamline and strengthen workflows that support data management and decision-making. Ability to work creatively and independently and ability to incorporate additional data types in the existing workflows is highly required. 



We are looking for an engaged individual who can work in a subset of these main areas:
  • Work with SQL, databases, Python scripting and Spotfire to create data solutions for the group for analysis of individual transformation experiments spanning multiple plant model and crop species.
  • Maintenance of tables/dashboards needed to manage pipeline planning and create structure for the transgene analysis workstreams.
  • Develop tools that enable systematic collection of metadata, management of data submissions and data retrieval from the multiple relational databases.
  • Develop approaches for comprehensive analysis of multiple data types and effective data visualization.    
  • Comparing experimental results analyzing trait performance at many stages of development for individual lead proteins across different assay systems and crops.
  • Deliver data packages to customers in a timely manner.     
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Demonstrate resilience and adaptability to a fluid work environment and changes in project priorities.  
  • Excellent communication and record keeping skills.




Educational Qualifications 

B.S. with 5 years of experience or M.S. with 3 years of experience.  Degree must be in plant biology, genetics, computational biology, or related biological sciences. 

Competencies and Experience 

Excellent knowledge of relational database architecture and management is required.  Data analytics aptitude and training is needed.  Working knowledge of Python, SQL and other programming languages. Organization of large data sets is important as well as working knowledge of statistics (JMPSAS and R)

Working experience with DNA sequencing data, genome assembly, short read sequence data processing and analyses, and experience with a range of bioinformatic tools is highly desirable.

Background in statistical analyses and experience with visualization multiple types of data types in reports and dashboards, including business intelligence tool(Spotfire or Tableau)
