LARGE ANIMAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN (Hourly Rate $30-38/hour)

Pomponio Ranch North is a premier ranch located in San Gregorio, CA, housing approximately 700 animals, including cattle, pigs, alpacas, sheep, goats, and horses. We pride ourselves on exceptional animal care standards and holistic ranch management. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Large Animal Veterinary Technician to join our team and assist in providing top-notch care for our animals.
OVERVIEW
The Large Animal Veterinary Technician will be responsible for assisting with the health and well-being of all ranch animals. This includes conducting treatments, administering medications, assisting with veterinary procedures, overseeing equine Recipient Care, and managing veterinary-related operations. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years of experience working with large animals, is highly skilled in veterinary support practices, and thrives in a team-oriented environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer treatments, therapies (including FES machines, laser therapy etc,), and medications as prescribed by veterinarians/Ranch Manager to support animal health and recovery.
- Diagnose minor health issues and provide preventative care.
- Oversee and coordinate Vet Days, ensuring animals are prepared and records are accurate.
- Assist veterinarians on vet days with treatments, flexions etc. and taking detailed notes.
- Breeding and reproductive care for livestock involving managing the health of pregnant horses and livestock throughout gestation, ensuring proper nutrition, providing a safe birthing environment, and monitoring for potential complications.
- Monitor the health and condition of horses and livestock daily, noting changes in behavior or physical health.
- Maintain accurate health records and treatment logs for all animals.
- Report directly to the Ranch Managers, providing updates on animal health and treatments.
- Provide support during emergencies, including after-hours care when necessary.
- Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of veterinary equipment and treatment areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience in large animal care, with strong skills in treatments, diagnostics, and therapies.
- Veterinary Technician license preferred, but not required.
- Experience with equine care, maternity support, and newborn care (kidding, lambing, foaling).
- Proficiency in administering injections, IV fluids, medications, and monitoring vitals.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail in record keeping.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Physically capable of handling large animals and performing tasks that require strength and stamina.
