Summary

CHS, Inc. is seeking a Senior Construction Project Manager to lead capital improvement and construction projects across CHS operations, including grain, agronomy, energy, and animal nutrition facilities. This position oversees projects from early planning and design through execution and closeout, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. The Senior Construction Project Manager collaborates closely with operations, engineering teams, contractors, and vendors to uphold quality standards, manage risk, and support long-term operational excellence.

This is a remote position, with the ideal candidate based in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, or Iowa to support regional project needs.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution
  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of multiple capital construction projects simultaneously.
  • Develop, review, and manage approved project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and budgets.
  • Coordinate contractor bidding, selection, and contract execution.
  • Maintain accurate construction records and databases for active and completed projects.
  • Conduct inspections and oversee construction activities to ensure work meets approved plans, specifications, and quality standards.

Construction Oversight & Controls
  • Monitor job sites to ensure:
    • Safe construction practices are followed
    • Work aligns with project schedules
    • Contractors meet contractual scope and quality requirement.
  • Manage change orders and resolve contrcution issues to minimize schedule and cost impacts.
  • Ensure project comply with CHS standards, local building codes, and regulatory requirements

Team & Technical Coordination
  • Lead and coordinate, engineering, and safety resources across civil, mechanical, structural, electrical and equipment specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, manufacturers, vendors, utilities and local officials.
  • Provide technical insight to challenge designs, recommend alternatives, and improve building processes.

Safety & Compliance
  • Lead compliance efforts related to CHS Environmental, Health & Safety standards.
  • Identify and communicate site hazards and address unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Promote an injury-free workplace for CHS employees and contractors.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Coordinate contracts with contractors, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier and contractor relationships.
  • Negotiate pricing, equipment discounts, and service terms.
  • Serve as a key point of contract for internal leadership, project owners and external partners.


Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 7+ years of experience in construction or agricultural industries with demonstrated project leadership responsibility.



Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and equipment used in commercial and industrial facilities
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with complex stakeholder groups
  • Understanding of OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, and NFPA standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CAD software
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • OSHA 20-hour certification
  • Experience in grain, agronomy, energy, or manufacturing facility construction
  • Prior experience as an engineer, architect, or construction manager in large, multi-site operations
  • PMP Certification preferred
  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. If required, selected candidates must pass pre-employment screenings to include all or a combination of drug, criminal, motor vehicle check, physical requirements and FMSCA Clearinghouse.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel domestically 50-75%
  • Abiltiy to be on-call 24/7

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
