Summary

CHS Inc. has an exciting opportunity at our Laurel, MT refinery for a Process Engineering Internship during the summer of 2026. The successful applicant(s) work under the direction of a senior engineering mentor(s) to support the operation of a complex petroleum refinery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain mass and energy balances around process units.
  • Work in a professional setting to troubleshoot, evaluate, and specify equipment in the areas of heat transfer, separations, and fluid dynamics.
  • Scope and screen solutions to key opportunities to improve safety, reliability, product yield, operability on process units.
  • Assist with capital project development to implement solutions identified.
  • Maintain process safety information (PFDs, P&IDs, MOCs).
  • Assist in compliance with OSHA PSM standards.
  • Participate in the site Mechanical Integrity Program and assure that production equipment is kept in safe and efficient operation and files are up to date.
  • Perform statistical analysis and basic calculations using laboratory and process data.


Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Completion of your Sophomore year in Chemical Engineering in an accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or better.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.


Additional Qualifications

  • Completion of your Junior year in Chemical Engineering in an accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Proficiency in Fluid Dynamic programs including but not limited to PIPE-FLO.
  • Proficiency in Process Simulation Software including but not limited to Aspen HYSIS.
  • Experience with Visual Basic programming and database programs.


CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
