Job Description:

Hours Per Week:  50 and availability off hours

 

Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate orchard status daily. Manage cultural practices, i.e. tree maintenance, orchard cleanliness, mowing, pruning, replants, etc.
  • Monitor overall field efficiency and performance. Work with supervisors to improve efficiency, develop field employees, and hire/fire staff as needed to ensure Capay Farms is a safe and efficient workplace.
  • Be a primary point of contact between the office and field, in particular working with HR to accomplish employer of choice initiatives.
  • Serve as point of contact for 9 field supervisors (that oversee ~80 employees) for all personnel issues.
  • Manage 2 administrative employees that assist in irrigation store inventory, database/technology implementation, and equipment fleet management, and parts/supplies purchasing.
  • Track employee performance and development, and ensure field participation in employee recognition programs. Provide information and recommendations for annual field compensation.
  • Handle disciplinary matters, including writeups and action plans. Cooperate and assist HR and Safety on workers compensation and/or termination investigations.
  • Communicate with HR and Safety to coordinate timing of new employee orientation and safety trainings.
  • Promote a culture of safety at all times. Collaborate with Safety Manager to ensure proper trainings occur and improve overall safety atmosphere of Capay Farms.
  • Communicate company objectives, policies, and decisions to the field. Conduct and document regular meetings with supervisors, both individually and as a group.  Prepare and present information to assist them in their responsibilities.
  • Relay field concerns and challenges to the management team and lead the charge on solutions to said challenges.
  • Determine overall short term and long term farm equipment needs, monitor usage and hours, and propose annual purchases and sales to ensure Capay Farms has sufficient equipment to accomplish near term tasks efficiently as well as planning for future tasks given purchasing constraints.
  • Gather quotes on equipment, review planned purchases with farm management team, and negotiate final contracts and warranties. Ensure equipment cycled out/disposed is maintained and sold appropriately.
  • Work with farm management team to select tree rootstock, variety, and spacing for all new plantings. Secure contracts with tree nurseries.
  • Negotiate contracts with farm labor contractors for necessary work in the field. Ensure Capay Farms standards for contractors are met.
  • Organize and communicate contracts and relevant cash flow priorities from equipment & tree purchases, plus to Capay Farms owners.
  • Utilize Company database to track work completed and efficiency.
  • Ensure ranch profiles and information are complete and consistently up to date.
  • Troubleshoot errors/glitches in budgets, labor information, and ranch information with finance and IT to ensure the most accurate reporting of information possible.
  • Responsible for in house irrigation store inventory
  • Coordinate daily with other Farm Managers to align priorities and assist on projects as needed.
  • As a member of the Capay Farms Management team, cooperate and work with other team members to influence the Capay Farms culture, vision, strategy, and long term goals.
  • Have an innovative mindset – stays up to date on new agricultural technology and trials/implements new methods to improve Capay Farms.
  • Make Capay Farms an employer of choice. Create an environment of safety and sustainability in the field, and keep a finger on the pulse of employee morale.  Always represent Capay Farms in a respectable manner.
  • Proof and approve payroll and vendor invoices weekly
  • In conjunction with management team, set annual budgets and review regularly.
  • Assist Human Resources on all field related issues – i.e. documentation for legal compliance, job descriptions for field employees, employee performance and compensation, etc.
  • Enforcement of all company policies and procedures.
  • Attend safety, field and management meetings.

 

Necessary Requirements:

  • Must have a valid CA Driver’s license
  • College education a plus
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish Required
  • Well versed in Tableau, Excel and Smart Sheets

Reports to: General Manager, CEO

Reports to Field Manager People and Cultural Operations: Field Supervisors, Operations Coordinator, Equipment Operations Assistant Manager
