The CNE, often affectionately referred to as The Ex, is Canada’s largest community event and one of the top ten agricultural fairs in North America. With something for everyone, our event offers a wide variety of attractions and interactive entertainment experiences including: concerts, midway rides and games, shopping, exhibits, tech and gaming hubs, food and wacky treats!
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Agriculture, the Program Coordinator, Agriculture will play a key role in supporting all aspects of Agriculture Department programs. This includes involvement from the initial planning stages through execution, move-out, and post-event teardown and evaluations. The Program Coordinator will assist with preparation, on-site coordination, and the overall delivery of various Agriculture programs to ensure their successful implementation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Administration and Vendor Relations
- Support all administrative functions associated with the Agriculture Department, such as the preparation of contracts, work orders, purchase requisitions, material requisitions, and all internal and external correspondence
- Assist with the move-in and move-out of all Agriculture programs
- Liaise with third party suppliers as needed
- Assist with uniform orders
- Provide customer service as required: answering questions/concerns from staff/exhibitors as well as the general public, provide basic directions, address feedback
- Assist with all other Agriculture related programming
Assist with the Summer Staffing Hiring
Provide staff requirements for HR
- Revise/prepare Job descriptions
- Coordinate and participate in interviews with HR
- Coordinate and participate in Orientations with HR
- Prepare department specific orientation material to present to hired staff at orientations along with uniforms and schedules
- Determine and submit staff uniform needs
Schedule and Payroll Responsibilities
- Create/revise all Agriculture Programs staff schedules ensuring to follow all HR government rules and regulations
- Distribute schedules to all staff and manage any changes, absenteeism, etc.
- Prepare Sign in/Sign out sheet for all department staff
- Enter hours in time sheet for all department staff daily
- Ensure completed time sheets are handed in to Payroll in a timely manner
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct, supervise and coordinate programs supervisors and staff for Agriculture Adventures, HorseCapades as well Agventure activity zone within the CNE Farm
- Direct, supervise, and assist staff to set up, maintain, and tear down activity stations for Agriculture Adventures, HorseCapades as well as Agventure activity zone within the CNE Farm
- Ensure the activity areas are safe for both guests and staff
- Train staff to effectively demonstrate program activities to children and caregivers
- Periodically rotating through activity areas to ensure that they are well-supplied, maintained, and presentable
- Ensure staff are able to answer basic questions from the public regarding programming, attractions, facilities, and services
- Identify and escalate injury or security situations as needed to the appropriate personnel
- Assign staff to activity areas and rotate them throughout the day
- Coordinate staff breaks
- Assist staff in their roles and responsibilities during peak periods
- Receive and coordinate staff requests regarding days off and shift-switches following the Department’s guidelines and deadlines
- Other duties as assigned
Special Conditions
- Full availability to work flexible hours and various shifts, including weekends and evenings, from mid-July through CNE event period to Labour Day (Sept. 1st).
- Comfortable working around animals and barnyard smells.
- Willingness to work in areas that may contain bright lights, loud noises and crowds of people.
- Capable of standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Adaptable to a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekend and statutory holidays.

Qualifications & Requirements
- G2 or G Licence Required
- Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years of age
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs
- Self-starter, able to absorb and learn various software applications
- Ability to engage positively with children and their caregivers, guardians
- Experience working with and supervising youth
- Available to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends
- Ability to engage positively with children and their caregivers, guardians
- Must have a friendly disposition
- Exhibit leadership skills and capable of taking initiative
- Capable of working effectively independently with little supervision
- Ability to communicate with a variety of age levels
- Patient and understanding in high stress situations
