Job Description:
The Multi-Craft Mechanic safely performs mechanical and electrical maintenance activities to ensure proper operation of plant machinery, equipment, buildings, and grounds to increase reliability and overall quality of production. The ideal candidate will have had at least five years of general maintenance experience within a refinery or comparable industrial setting.
Hourly Pay Rate: $35; Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
Main Accountabilities
Commitment to supply safe food, maintain a food safety culture within the site, continually improve the site's food safety management system; and comply with customer and regulatory requirements
Repairs and replaces PLC equipment, tanks, pumps, motors, heat exchangers, agitators, boilers, air compressors, valves, pipelines, and other plant equipment
Fabricates and welds piping, pipe fittings, equipment, and machinery
Conducts preventative and predictive maintenance tasks
Troubleshoots issues with electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
Repairs fire and safety alarms and systems as needed
Assists E&I technicians when needed
Performs other duties as needed or assigned
Knowledge and Technical Competencies
Self-Starter with good interpersonal skills
Ability to read and interpret various directives that may be presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format such as safety rules, operating instructions, drawings, production schedules, etc.
Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence
Ability to contribute to Root Cause Failure analysis reviews
Efficient in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, fractions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and flow; Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Experience with a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) or comparable ERP such as SAP is preferred
Knowledge of NFPA70E rules and regulations for electrical safety is a plus
Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed
Must have the ability to meet the following physical demands:
Access work areas at elevated heights up to 150 feet above ground (Ascending and descending from ladders, catwalks, product tanks, etc.)
Must be able to move about elevated and confined workplaces making equipment repairs and adjustments and installing equipment. Access to such places may be difficult or uncomfortable, but is necessary because this position is solely responsible for the work to be done
Must be able to move and position relatively heavy equipment or parts- 50 to 60 lbs. and/or assist others in moving, shifting, or positioning heavier objects.
Reach and grip surfaces with arms and hands; Touch, feel, smell, and hearing, coupled with logical deduction are all important.
Frequent standing and walking; moderate climbing; occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, sometimes in confined spaces
Must be able to view, hear, read, and respond while using a personal computer, keyboard, computer monitor within close and sometimes distant range, equipment controls, radio, and other media devices as required to complete job duties
Must be able to view/read a color-coded indicators, pressure gauges, temperature and level gauges, gas and product flow indicators, and other measuring equipment from close to medium range
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE and use sound judgment as the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, areas where there is risk of electrical shock, and high, precarious places
Must be able to pass a respirator clearance test
Ability to withstand exposure to dust, dirt, noise, vibration, tempter variation, fumes, and odors to varying degrees, depending on assignment, with the proper PPE
Must be able to work safely as exposure to mechanical, electrical, and fire hazards in many situations may exist
Must be able to distinguish between hot and cold to verify if the heat tracing is working on the process lines
Must be able to respond to calls within 30 minutes
Education/Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Related technical certificate and/or Associate's degree is preferred
Must have a minimum of five years of work experience in a related maintenance craft such as Industrial Mechanic, Welder, Pipefitter, Millwright, Electrician, or E&I Technician
