Job Description:
A Day in the Life:
This role will be responsible for various aspects of indirect state and local tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect taxes. Additionally, this role will support the preparation of income tax workpapers. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of state and local tax laws and regulations, advanced Excel skills, and experience with large datasets and analytical tools. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance while identifying opportunities for process improvement and automation.

What You'll be Doing:
Sales and Use Tax Compliance:
o Coordinate with the shared service team and provide guidance on preparation of sales and use tax returns.
o Review and file sales and use tax returns for multiple jurisdictions.
o Manage exemption certificates and ensure proper documentation.
o Research and analyze taxability of products and services.
o Reconcile sales tax data with general ledger accounts.
o Assist with sales and use tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.

Property Tax Compliance:
o Prepare and file property tax returns.
o Manage property tax payments and assessments. o Calculate annual property tax accruals.
o Research and initiate property tax appeals, if necessary.

Other Indirect Taxes:
o Ensure compliance with other applicable indirect taxes, including gross receipts tax, excise tax, and any industry-specific taxes.
o Monitor and adapt to unique jurisdictional requirements and changes in tax regulations.

Tax Research:
o Conduct in-depth research on complex indirect tax issues.
o Interpret tax regulations and apply findings to business operations. o Document research findings and maintain a repository of tax information.
o Utilize tax research software to stay current on legislative changes.
o Process Improvement and Automation:
o Identify opportunities to streamline indirect tax processes and improve efficiency.
o Evaluate and implement automation tools to minimize manual tasks and reduce errors.

Income Tax Support:
o Assist in the preparation of income tax workpapers.

Communication and Collaboration:
o Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders (e.g., accounting, finance, operations) regarding indirect tax matters.
o Interact with external stakeholders, including auditors and tax authorities.

Skills/Experience Requirements:
o Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
o Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in indirect state tax compliance.
